So, I ended up spending several hours at the emergency room the other day with my girlfriend. They took x-rays of her stomach and the technician was very surprised to see a bright piece of metal shining through on the machine.
"That's a ring." She said, noting his confusion.
"You have a belly button piercing?" He asked.
"No..."
It was my ring. A few hours earlier, she saw me take it off for a moment and thought it would be fun to hide my jewelry from me, quickly selecting her mouth as the clever hiding place. Several minutes later, after trying to force the ring out of her impenetrable mouth, I gave up. And pride truly comes before a fall. Even as she was laughing at me for failing to get my ring, she swallowed it. Then it was my turn to laugh.
To make a long story short, the doctors told her just to let it pass out of her system. She gave it back to me a few days later. I just try not to think about where it's been.
